    Taxidermy Preparation Tips

    SPEED AND CARE

THE KEY IS SPEED AND CARE.  HEAT AND TIME ARE THE ENEMIES OF A GOOD MOUNT.

    1. Skinning

You can bring me the entire head… it's IMPORTANT to keep it cool and get it to me right away. DO NOT USE SALT.

Need tips for skinning an animal for taxidermy preparation, call me on 720-305-8060

    2. Avoid Dragging

Prevent hair loss by not dragging the animal on its hide.

    3. Remove Meat

Remove as much meat and fat from the hide as possible.

    4. Fold "flesh-to-flesh"

Fold the hide flesh-to-flesh (with hair on the outside).

    5. Keep Hide Cool

Cool the hide as quickly as possible to prevent bacterial growth, which can lead to hair slippage and hide deterioration, lowering the mount's quality.

    6. Freeze it

If you can't deliver it to me immediately, freeze it!

    7. Damage to the Cape

If the cape is severely damaged, you may need to buy a new one for an additional fee.

That’s it ~ keep it cool, handle with care, and freeze if you need to.

    Payment Policy

At the time of drop-off, a 50% deposit is required to cover the cost of materials and forms. The remaining balance must be paid before or when you pick up your finished mount. Please note, if your mount isn’t paid in full and picked up within 30 days of completion, the mount will become the property of Angus Taxidermy. Clear communication is key - I’m always willing to work with you to meet your needs, as long as we stay in touch.

    TURNAROUND

Turnaround times are negotiable but typically range from 6–15 months depending on the mount.  The cost and completion time depend on the complexity and uniqueness of each mount; for example, size and species, condition of the animal, customization requests, taxidermist labor, time, and material costs.

To provide an accurate quote, it's important that you share your specific needs upfront. I’m committed to keeping you informed of any unexpected changes that may arise during the taxidermy process.
